IEMA Lead Environmental Auditor (ISO 14001:2004)

This lead environmental auditor course is accredited by the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) and is for the serious EMS management system auditor. A challenging course that will equip you with the planning skills to lead an audit team, carry out complex supplier audits, external 3rd party audits and deliver accurate, defendable and value adding reports. This course is also extremely useful for EMS system managers. It describes the key elements and supporting processes of an effective, ISO 14001:2004 based management system that is focused on continual EMS improvement

What you will learn

You will learn how to plan, conduct, report and follow up the results of EMS audits. You will learn how to audit an EMS system for continual improvement, and understand the role that processes such as internal auditing and management review play in the continual improvement cycle The course will explain the relationship between critical system processes such as identification of aspects and impacts and the evaluation of legal compliance in context of ISO 14001:2004 and a “Plan-Do-Check-Act” orientated management system

In context of 1st, 2nd & 3rd party audits, participants will learn the techniques and disciplines of:

  • Unpinning environmental management principles
  • Audit planning and checklist development
  • Performing the audit, including interviewing, following audit trails, process and procedural auditing
  • Audit report writing and feedback techniques
  • Following up the results of audits with an emphasis on continual EMS system improvement
  • Leading an audit team

  • The importance of robust and aspects and impacts evaluation
  • EMAS
